News about KunstDoel Inside/Outside solidarity projects for Doel
Dear English-speaking Doel supporters
Herewith the latest news about KunstDoel's campaign to save the Flemish village of Doel from demolition through art and positive action.
1. KunstDoel Inside
Ten internationally renowned Belgian artists are coming to the distressed village of Doel to create a work of art inside villagers' houses. With this symbolic action the artists want to express their solidarity with villagers who would like to stay in Doel. The artwork is meant to protect the houses against demolition.
Friday 27 March, the first four artists -- Fred Bervoets, Jan Decleir, Guillaume Bijl en Koen van den Broek -- will be in Doel to create their work. This event will enjoy much media attention. Villagers are looking forward to the artists' arrival and are hopeful that their act of solidarity may help to save the village from demolition.

2. KunstDoel Outside
This project is open to all visual artists. It aims to cover all the windows of empty houses with two dimensional artwork suggesting the house is inhabited and thus creating a surrealistic atmosphere of virtual inhabitation in the village. The artists will become the custodians of the houses they create artwork for. KunstDoel hopes the works of art will stop advancing bulldozers…
3. Inauguration of New Village Poet
On 21 March, Frank De Vos has been inaugurated as the new official Doel poet. For several months, Frank has been very actively supporting KunstDoel campaigns and we are very happy that the jury has selected his work as the winning poem.
